Past Projects

MIP - Murderball Implementation Project
January 2008 -- The first wheelchair rugby team was successfully established at the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre in Delhi with the help of many friends. Over the course of three weeks, patients and staff were introduced to this full-contact sport for quadriplegics (also called “murderball”) which is played by over 25 countries worldwide at the Paralympics. Hospital patients and staff were so responsive that ISIC has since hired a recreational therapist to oversee the sport activities. Many thanks to all or supporters, including the Dana and Christopher Reeve Foundation, for contributions that made this project possible!

Going Back
January 2007 -- Jon’s first return visit to ISIC since his accident in February ‘06 revealed the scarcity of peer mentors for India's quadriplegic population. Physical therapy is seen to be effective among paraplegics, but for quadriplegics it fails to take into account the possibilities for personal independence. Jon served as a peer mentor for two weeks, demonstrating to resident quads advanced wheelchair techniques and basic activities of daily living.
